“Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.” I Peter 5:7
The Apostle Peter is writing to believers who are suffering — not in theory, but in real life. They were facing persecution, rejection, and uncertainty simply because they followed Christ.

In the verses leading up to this, Peter calls them to humility — to willingly place themselves under the mighty hand of God even when life feels out of control.
Life has a way of placing weight on us that we were never meant to carry.
We worry about the future.
We carry regret from the past.
We feel anxious in the present.
Sometimes the burdens of life pile up slowly over time — responsibilities, expectations, disappointments, fears — until one day we realize we’re overwhelmed and exhausted physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Does that make you a weak Christian?
Absolutely not. That makes you human.
God never intended for His children to carry those responsibilities, expectations, disappointments, and fears alone. Yet we often find ourselves doing just that.
I’ve often said that living the Christian life is simple — but we make it difficult. I sabotage myself.
As believers, we are running in a race that is set before us. Carrying weight that we shouldn’t only slows us down. Extra weight is the last thing a runner in a race wants to carry. Added weight makes running your race more difficult and more exhausting than it should be.
🚨What added weight are you carrying that you shouldn’t be?
To understand verse 7 better, it’s important to take note of what Peter says before in verses 5–6 and after in verse 8.
First notice verses 5–6:
5…..”for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
(The connection between verses 5 and 6 is very important to understanding verse 7)
7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
🚨Casting is connected to humbling yourself.
In other words, anxiety often comes from trying to carry what only God can control.
Humility says:
“God, You are supreme. You are strong. I am weak, Lord. I willingly release this to You.”
Pride says:
“I have got to figure this out. I have to control this.” (Notice there’s never a mention of God. That’s what pride does gives us a false sense of ourselves)
Peter is teaching that surrender relieves anxiety — but self-reliance increases it.
Peter is teaching that surrender relieves anxiety — but self-reliance increases it.
You cannot humble yourself before God and remain self-reliant. The two work against each other.
You and I are either living dependent on God or living independent of God. Which one describes you?
The word casting in verse 7 carries the idea of throwing something upon another because it is too heavy to carry yourself
In other words, humility isn’t pretending everything is okay — it’s admitting that it’s not, and trusting God enough to give Him the burdens weighing you down.
It’s the same idea as taking a heavy load off your shoulders and placing it onto something strong enough to hold it.
Peter is not suggesting that we manage our anxiety better. He’s telling us to move it — to cast it upon the Lord.
Are you taking that which is weighing you down and giving it to the One True God?
Why should you?
Because He cares for you! What a thought.
The same God who spoke galaxies into existence still speaks gently to the individual heart—ruling the universe with power, yet caring for you with personal love.
He cares not in a distant or general way — but personally, intentionally, and consistently, as a loving father would care for his child.
Never forget God is not like man. Man will fail and disappoint you. God will not.
He is not indifferent to your struggles.
He is not annoyed by your weakness.
He is not frustrated by your fear.
He invites you to bring every burden to Him — not because you are strong, but because He is.
Many of us try to carry what God has commanded us to cast.
We hold on to what He has asked us to hand over.
Worry was never meant to be a permanent resident in the heart of a believer — it’s meant to be a temporary reminder to bring our burdens to the Lord in prayer.
Lastly, notice what comes after verse 7. This is also very important because it shows the bigger picture. I Peter 5:8 says:
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”
Devour is a strong word. It means to Destroy. That is exactly what the Devil wants to see happened to you — to make disappear. That’s how serious this spiritual battle is. Satan wants to destroy you. He wants your testimony for Christ to disappear.
Knowing the spiritual war is this real makes carrying burdens we are not meant to carry that much more serious.
Unmanaged anxiety can and will make you spiritually vulnerable.
When we carry what we were meant to cast:
We lose clarity We lose focus We become spiritually weary We become spiritually vulnerable.
As verse 8 says, let’s be sober (be alert) and vigilant (keeping careful watch).
If we are to be sober and vigilant, it starts with:
1) Humbling ourselves.
2) Fully trusting in God
That’s why Proverbs 3:5-6 has been so special to me. It sums up how we should live the Christian life.
5 “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.” — Proverbs 3:5–6
INSIGHT
What is God saying and why does this matter?
🚨God is saying that He doesn’t just have the power to help you — He has the compassion to care about you.
🚨That matters greatly because carrying what God told you to cast will eventually crush you.
At this moment, you may truly feel like no one cares about you or what you’re facing. Understand — that is a lie.
Be comforted by knowing the Most High and loving God cares ABOUT YOU and all that’s going on in your life.
If God cares enough to save your soul, He cares enough to sustain your heart.
Nothing you bring to Him is too small to matter — and nothing you carry is too heavy for Him to handle.
INSIGHT TO IMPACT
How is this profound truth going to impact your life and help you practically today?
If you get a hold of this it could revolutionize your walk with God. So take some time as you ask yourself the following questions:
– What burdens am I holding onto that God has asked me to release?
– Am I trying to control something I should be trusting God with?
– How would my peace change if I truly believed God cares for me personally?
– What would it look like today to “cast” my worry onto the Lord in prayer?
– Is there something I need to surrender instead of stress over?
– Am I admitting to God that I am not strong enough? That’s the first step.
– Am I intentionally and willingly trusting in His promise that He cares for me so much He is willing to carry what I cannot?
– Above all, am I living my life dependent on Him or independent of Him?
