God is Greater (part 2)

In Part 1, we saw the amazing truth: God lives within you through the person of the Holy Spirit, and He is greater than the world. He can help you overcome false teaching by recognizing it. He can overcome any fears you have through faith in Him. We already are victorious.

But victory isn’t rooted in your intellect, strength, or maturity — it’s rooted in who you belong to.

🚨But knowing God is greater isn’t enough if we let the world shape our hearts, minds, and affections. The same system that produces false teaching can mold us subtly if we love it.

That’s why John warns us in 1 John 2:15–17:

Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”

Two Competing Loves

There are two competing loves in every life:

Love for GodLove for the world

They pull in opposite directions. You cannot give your heart fully to both.

The world whispers: “Follow the crowd, not the cross.” – Seek comfort over obedience.” “Value approval over truth.”

🚨Loving the world subtly molds our minds, priorities, and desires. Slowly, the world shapes us more than Christ does.

UNDERSTANDING             “The World”

John explains in 2:16 what is in the world.

The lust of the flesh — desires that gratify self, seeking pleasure above God’s will

The lust of the eyes — craving what we see, envy, materialism, or what others have

The pride of life — chasing status, recognition, influence, or power

🚨This is the mold of the world — a system of values that opposes God. It’s what shapes false teaching, fear, and compromise. Sneaky. Persuasive. Attractive. But fleeting.

Be a Transformer, Not a Conformer

Romans 12:2 helped me so much as a young Christian. It still helps me today to remember what I SHOULD NOT BE vs what I SHOULD BE.

Look at Romans 12:2. Paul tells them something very Profound.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind,

“Conformed” literally means: Fashioned into the same mold as something else. The world presses its values and desires against our hearts.

Transformation comes from God. The Spirit renews our minds, reshapes our desires, and realigns our hearts with Christ.

There’s a message that I preach sometimes titled “Choose today who you are going to be. A Conformer or a Transformer.”

You have a choice. Conform or Transform. Let’s look at what both of these options you have actually mean.

🚨The Conformer lets the world write the script. Thoughts, values, and decisions are shaped by what’s popular, easy, or self-serving. Allowing the things of the world to pressure you to be just like them. Molding and ultimately shaping your heart, mind and priorities. The mind is passive, reactive, and distracted. Spiritual truth struggles to take root, and discernment is clouded.

The Conformers RESULT = Temporary satisfaction but long-term emptiness

🚨The Transformer actively renews the mind. Thoughts are filtered through God’s truth, priorities are realigned with His will, and decisions reflect His good, pleasing, and perfect purpose.

The Transformer’s RESULT =. The mind becomes a fertile garden, bearing fruit of wisdom, peace, and spiritual maturity.

Like I said before the amazing truth is You can choose. Each day presents an opportunity to resist conformity and invite transformation. The battle isn’t just external—it begins in your thoughts. Renew your mind, and watch your life follow.

Loving What Lasts

John reminds us:

“And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.” (2:17)

Everything the world offers — approval, status, pleasure, comfort — is temporary.

Only God’s will and God’s ways endure.

Victory doesn’t come by avoiding the world; it comes by loving what lasts, choosing the eternal over the temporary, letting God shape your heart, mind, and desires.

Closing Thought

The Spirit within you is greater than the world. What you love today shapes what you believe tomorrow. Your affections mold your faith; your faith is the blueprint for your life. Choose wisely. Be a Transformer, not a Confirmer.

LEADING INSIGHT

Reflect on what stood out to you. Please share some of your thoughts and/or answers in the reply section at the bottom of the page.

I have a choice – Every day, my thoughts can be shaped by the world, or I can intentionally allow God to renew my mind.

Conformity comes naturally – If I don’t actively seek God’s truth, I will unconsciously adopt worldly values, priorities, and attitudes.

Transformation requires action – Renewing my mind is an ongoing process that changes how I think, feel, and respond to life.

Are there areas where your desires are shaped more by culture than by Christ?

Which values are silently molding your heart and mind?

Are you living as a Transformer or a Confirmer?

How will your decisions change if you consistently ask the Spirit to help you reject the fleeting and embrace the eternal?

LEADING INSIGHT TO LIFE IMPACT

Take your leading insights and apply them practically. Please share some of your thoughts and/or answers in the reply section at the bottom of the page.

Today I will pause and notice which thoughts are coming from the world versus God’s truth.

I can choose to replace a worldly or negative thought with a truth from Scripture.

I will ask God to help me identify areas where I’ve been conforming without realizing it and guide me toward transformation.

How are lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, or pride of life influencing your choices today?

What practical step can you take this week to renew your mind and align your loves with God’s values?

Are there areas where your desires are shaped more by culture than by Christ? If so what is your next move?

Remember “Greater is He that is in you than he that’s in the world”

Realize you have a choice that you can make right now to either be a conformer or a transformer!
